Huawei Technologies, a leading telecommunications solution provider from China, signed a contract amounting to 54 million US dollars with Pakistan 's GSM mobile operator WARID Telecom and Wateen Telecom Thursday in Islamabad.

Under the contract, Huawei will provide a 1.05 million GSM subscriber radio network capacity covering more than 50 cities for Warid Telecom in Pakistan and will build a backbone transmission for Wateen Telecom covering nearly 5000 kilometers.

Huawei has been selected by Warid and Wateen, two mainstream telecom operators in Pakistan, as a long-term strategic partner. Both Warid and Wateen are owned by an Abu Dhabi consortium.

Incorporated in 1988 and based in Shenzhen, China, Huawei Technologies specializes in the research and development, production and marketing of telecom equipment, providing customized network solutions in fixed, mobile, optical and data communications networks. It is a key player in China's telecom market and is quickly becoming an active participant in the global telecom market.
