SAIC starts production of new engine
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2007-01-12 10:29

Shanghai Automotive Industry Corp (SAIC) Motor said it has started production of its KV6 engine, to be used in its Roewe vehicles.

In 2004, SAIC purchased the intellectual property rights of the Rover 75 and 25 products of former UK automaker MG Rover, as well as the K series gasoline and G series diesel engine families.

The design of the new KV6 engine was part of the package purchased by SAIC Motor from MG Rover.

UK-based consultancy firm Ricardo formed a new subsidiary, Ricardo 2010 Consultants Lts, to assist SAIC with production and development, the Chinese automaker said in a statement.

The engine will be produced at SAIC's Baoshan manufacturing plant near Shanghai, SAIC said.

The statement did not provide production figures.

SAIC unveiled the Roewe 750 sedan, its first own-brand car, at the China Auto Show in Beijing last November.
