Huawei Technologies equips Ghana's Presidency
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-03-24 00:27

Chinese telecommunication company Huawei Technologies on Friday handed over a newly installed telepresence conference system to the presidency of Ghanaian.

The equipment which connected the presidency directly to six regional (provincial) ministers and regional coordinating councils was in fulfillment of Huawei's promise to Ghanaian President John Evans Atta Mills during his state visit to China in September 2010.

President Mills believed the Ghana's administration would be transformed through the use of the three-million-U.S.-dollars equipment. He described the equipment as useful because of the time and cost that would be saved in interacting live with his appointees across the country.

"They have demonstrated this in so many ways which will inure to the benefit of Ghanaians," Mills stated.

As promised, Huawei will be also expected to install similar equipment for three top teaching hospitals, Korle Bu in the capital, Komfo Anorkye in Kumasi, about 200 km north of the capital, and Tamale Teaching Hospital 640 km north of the capital.

The government would "put the equipment to good use" to demonstrate to the Chinese government and people that "we are appreciative of all the sacrifice being made for Ghana," Mills assured.

Telepresence is a two-way immersive communications experience that stimulates an in-person, interactive encounter.

In his message, Wang Yingjie, the Managing Director of Huawei in Ghana, said as the leading Information and Communication Technology (ICT) solutions provider and a locally registered company, Huawei Ghana has been trying to realize its corporate social responsibilities as a good citizen.

The Chinese ambassador to Ghana, Gong Jianzhong said that the Chinese business community in Ghana was playing increasingly important roles in the country's drive for infrastructure transformation, industrialization and job creation.

"In this regard, Huawei has played an exemplary role through adoption of a localization strategy, implementation of Social Responsibility Programs and provision of quality products and services to the Ghanaian society," Gong said.
