Imported vehicles sold in the Philippines went up by 10.6 percent on year to 31,399 units in 2013, local distributors said Wednesday.

The Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID) said the increase in the uptake of light commercial vehicles (LCVs) boosted their sales last year.

Sales of LCVs went up by almost 26 percent on year to 15,256 units. AVID said Subaru's Forester and Chevrolet's Trailblazer were the most popular products in the LCV segment.

Distributors sold less passenger cars in 2013. Sales dipped by 0.9 percent on year to 16,143 units.

As expected, distributors did well in December, with sales going up by 64.1 percent on year to 3,491 units.

Local distributors said they expect demand for imported vehicles to remain high this year due to the country's strong economic prospects and the projected increase in construction spending for typhoon rehabilitation.
