U.S. durable goods orders rise in June
New orders for U.S. manufactured durable goods increased in June, boosted by demand for transportation equipment, the Commerce Department reported Friday.
Orders for durable goods increased 0.7 percent to 239.9 billion U.S. dollars in June following a decrease of 1 percent in May. It was the fourth increase of the last five months.
Orders for transportation equipment rose 0.7 percent. Orders for non-defense capital goods excluding aircraft, a gauge for business spending plans, decreased 1.0 percent in June after a 0.1 percent drop in May.
Excluding the volatile transportation sector, new orders for manufactured durable goods increased 0.7 percent in June.
