Japanese household spending in June dropped a price-adjusted 3.0 percent on year to 272,791 yen (about 2,678.5 U.S. dollars), the country's Internal Affairs Ministry said Tuesday.

The decrease, compared with an initial forecast of 3.8 percent decline, indicated that consumer spending is recovering after the consumption tax hike since April 1, said local media.

Meanwhile, the average monthly income of salaried households came to 710,375 yen (6,974.2 dollars), down 6.6 percent in real terms.
