China National Electric Equipment Corp and Romanian Societatea Complexul Energetic Hunedoara SA signed deals on Monday to help renovate and create environmentally protective measures for one of Romania's thermal plants.

The projects will be for the Deva Thermal Power Plant in southwestern Transylvania in Romania, according to CNEEC.

Zhao Ruolin, chairman and CEO of CNEEC, said it is the first project in energy developing and infrastructure construction by the company in Europe that is supported by both governments.

"If the project is successfully conducted, it would open the door for China's electric engineering companies to the European Union's energy market," he said. "At the same time, it would also reinforce our ability and influence in the area of environmental protection engineering in thermal power construction."

The deals were signed in the presence of Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Romanian counterpart Victor Ponta during Li's official visit to Romania.
