U.S.-listed Chinese firms trade mostly lower

U.S.-listed Chinese companies traded mostly lower on Wednesday, with 6 of the 10 stocks by weight in the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index ending the day on a downbeat note.

Shares of Alibaba and JD.com dropped 2.66 percent and 1.66 percent respectively, leading the laggards in the top 10 stocks of the index.

Shares of Ctrip.com rose 0.24 percent, the top gainer of the 10 stocks.

U.S. stocks closed lower on Wednesday as trade tensions between the United States and its major trading partners intensified.

The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 219.21 points, or 0.88 percent, to 24,700.45. The S&P 500 decreased 19.82 points, or 0.71 percent, to 2,774.02. The Nasdaq Composite Index decreased 42.59 points, or 0.55 percent, to 7,716.61.

As of Tuesday, the S&P U.S. Listed China 50 index stood at 3,231.53, marking a 0.99-percent increase for the month-to-date returns and a 4.55-percent gain for the year-to-date returns. Enditem
