The plans were unveiled three months after GM announced it would spend US$250 million to build a GM park including an alternative fuel research center in Shanghai.
Volkswagen AG, another major car maker, intends to cut oil consumption and exhaust emission of all its Chinese-made vehicles by at least 20 percent by 2010.
