Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-02-01 19:14

China will step up efforts to construct water-conservation facilities and continue to increase funding for the projects to boost agricultural development, authorities said on Wednesday.

A document publicized Wednesday by the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and the State Council, China's cabinet, said the country will quicken the pace of building water projects, treat rivers and lakes, strengthen reservoirs and prevent geological disasters to increase the areas that have access to irrigation.

China will promote new technologies and equipment for water-saving irrigation, expand the purchasing subsidies and offer tax breaks for the equipment, the document said.

Meanwhile, the document said China will push for agricultural mechanizations in the country by boosting credit support to the purchase of large and medium machineries.

Further, the document pledges to provide more educational training on science and technology in the rural areas to produce professionals in the sector to facilitate growth.

It also pledged to launch key ecological projects in the country.
