China, the world's second-largest energy consumer, will boost its electricity-generating capacity at least 11 percent this year, as it seeks to end a four-year run of power shortages.
The country's total installed electricity-generating capacity will rise by more than 70 gigawatts from last year's 622 gigawatts, the State Electricity Regulatory Commission said in a statement on its Website yesterday. It didn't say what the total capacity will be. The growth of China's electricity-generating capacity has lagged behind its economy, leading to power shortages every year since 2003.
