China's mobile Internet has huge market potential

The Internet Conference 2010 witnessed the glamour of mobile internet industries attracting everyone's attention. Li Yizhong, Minister of MIIT (Ministry of Industry and Information Technology), presented himself in the business display area and informed himself with the development trend of mobile internet in details.




As the outcome of the combination of mobile terminal equipment and mobile communication technology, mobile internet has experienced a gradual development in China with the commercialization of 3G (the third generation of mobile communication) in China, the rise of access speed and the drop of access charges.

Data also proves this. According to The 26th Statistical Report on China Internet Development State, the population of mobile phone internet users has hit 277 million until June this year. The figure is 22 percent higher than the end of 2009 and overtook the rise in traditional internet users by a large margin. Li Kaifu, Board Chairman of Innovation Works asserted that the population of mobile internet users will be doubled or even more in the next five years, reaching 800 million.

With the soaring of phone internet users, the mobile internet market scale is also expanding. According to the statistics released by iResearch Consulting Group, the revenue obtained in mobile phone internet sector has hit RMB10.41 billion yuan in 2009 with a growth of 66 percent. It is estimated that the revenue will reach RMB41.3 billion yuan by 2012 with a compound growth rate of over 40 percent in the coming 3 years.

This market has witnessed a booming golden era for companies engaged in developing mobile internet business. "Currently, the UC Browser has been downloaded 300 million times with more than 100 million users and 45 billion pageviews. It has become the most frequently used phone internet browser across the world", Yu Yongfu, CEO of UC Mobile commented with pride. 

Just as Yu Yongfu said, like the development of traditional internet, the companies of the whole mobile internet chain position their directions precisely. Tencent put the development of 3G products as its major focus for the next few years. In order to intensify the adherence of its clients, Tencent packaged wireless internet application into mobile terminals. The Innovation Works, set up by Li Kaifu, was now investing on one mobile software producer and 11 other companies with an expectation of benefitting from the rapid development of internet technology. Lenovo Group succeeded in repurchasing Lenovo mobile business, and released mobile terminal rapidly and marched into mobile internet market in a large scale. It plans to propel mobile internet products to occupy 20 percent share of Lenovo's total income within the next 5 years.

The rapid development of Chinese mobile internet market set a solid foundation for its expanding into overseas market. In this may, UC Mobile signed a contract with iFee, the biggest value added service provider in Eastern Europe market, to promote the development of mobile internet in local areas with joint efforts. This August, it signed a contract with three operators in Indonesia, and released a UC browser tailor-made to Indonesian users. The first three operators contracted with UC Browser occupy over 65 percent market shares in Indonesia. "In the next ten years, along with the process of wireless replacing cable, in the mobile internet field, Chinese mobile internet enterprises will have a chance to embrace a global cluster development and rise, and China will be the center of global mobile internet."Yu Yongfu said confidently.
