The west coast of the Pearl River is dominated by equipment manufacturing industry of Guangdong and has developed a batch of leading industries with obvious competitive advantages great support and motivating force, such as electrical machinery, ocean engineering, general aviation and intelligent manufacturing industries.
Recently, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) official approved "six cities and one district" in the west coast of the Pearl River as the pilot demonstrative city agglomeration of "Made in China 2025". In Addition, The Second Advanced Manufacturing Investment and Trade Symposium will kick off at the end of September in Foshan, Guangdong.
The west coast of the Pearl River is dominated by equipment manufacturing industry of Guangdong and has developed a batch of leading industries with obvious competitive advantages great support and motivating force, such as electrical machinery, ocean engineering, general aviation and intelligent manufacturing industries. In August 2014, People's Government of Guangdong Province launched the construction of advanced equipment manufacturing industry belt in the west coast of the Pearl River, in which Zhuhai, Foshan, Zhongshan, Jiangmen, Yangjiang and Zhaoqing as well as Shunde District were covered in the construction scope of "six cities and one district". According to the Layout and Project Planning for Advanced Equipment Manufacturing Industry Belt in the West Coast of the Pearl River (2015- 2020) released in January 2015, the output value of equipment industry there would be RMB 2 trillion yuan.
Guided by the clear target, "six cities and one district" in the west coast of the Pearl River have made vigorous efforts to release supporting policies in succession, carried out accurate investment attraction and proactively motivate the construction of regional industry belt. At present, a construction layout of industry belt with Zhuhai and Foshan as the "leaders" cities learning complementary advantages from each other and dislocation development. Last year, the west coast of the Pearl River introduced 179 equipment manufacturing projects with the investment amount surpassing RMB 100 million yuan, 44 of which has over RMB 1 billion yuan of investment funds and the total investment was RMB 141.86 billion yuan. In addition, a batch of leading projects were also introduced, including Fluor Marine Engineering Equipment, Yaskawa Electric Robots, Sany Wind Power Equipment and Xinxing Heavy Industries, and also a batch of and professional, exquisite and high-end excellent projects, such as Boke CNC, KeyStar and Switzerland SSM.
According to data, the value added and increase rate of investment in equipment manufacturing industry in "six cities and one district" in the west coast of the Pearl River has remained increase quarter on quarter in 2015. RMB 262.39 billion yuan of value added was realized, an increase of 14.2 percent year on year and 7 percentage points higher than that of industries above the designated level in the whole province (7.2 percent). RMB 116.55 billion yuan of investment was achieved, an increase of 56.8 percent year on year and 36 percentage points higher than the growth rate (20.8 percent) of industries above the designated level in the whole province. From January to July this year, the value added in the equipment manufacturing industry in cities and districts in the region.
In terms of industry planning, different cities and districts show distinct characteristics. Focusing on machine tools, Foshan has concentrated efforts on intelligent equipment manufacturing industry represented by CNC equipment, 3D printing and industrial robot. Zhuhai has made strenuous efforts to drive the development of marine engineering equipment and aerospace and aviation equipment; Jiangmen has extended the industry chain of railway vehicle manufacturing and maintenance and created the industrial cluster of rail transit valuing hundreds of billion yuan; Zhongshan has speeded up efforts in developing the manufacturing industries, such as machine tool and other industries targeted at the development positioning of being "professional, unique, precise and high-end"; Yangjiang is making vigorous efforts to develop "China (Yangjiang) High-end Stainless Steel Industrial Base" and "Industrial Base of Wind Power Generation Equipment Manufacturing".
In the new factory of L.K. Group in Zhongshan covering an area of 133mu, one large dual-plate high-performance injection molding machine of two persons' height is in rapid running and the worker only needs to operate it on the LCD regularly, and then the machine will complete the processing of multiple processes automatically. "Previously, the market of small standard injection molding machines shrunk constantly and as a result the group decided to move towards diversified production. Out independently developed large injection molding machine is a powerful tool for us to grasp great shares in the international market", Huang Zhaoxia, the general manager assistant of the company told the journalist in the interview. Such famous automobile brands as Land Rover and Ford are all customers of the company. At present, injection molding machines manufactured by L.K. are mainly exported to Mexico, the USA, Southeast Asia and Russia.
Such influential enterprises in the west coast of the Pearl River like L.K. Group are emerging constantly and grasping market shares in their respective field by taking advantage of their self-developed high-end products. In Foshan, China's first production-line project of exporting wall and floor tiles developed by Keda Clean Energy Co., Ltd. initiated the export of China's thermotechnical and complete-line equipment. In Zhuhai, the cable molding & welding technology products developed by CYG have filled the gap of China in international power cable accessory industry and have been successfully applied in the world's first five-end flexible DC transmission projects. In Zhaoqing, the electric vehicle manufactured by Marshell has occupied 40 percent of the domestic market and been sold to 100 countries and regions in Southeast Asia, Europe, America, Oceania and Africa.
In addition to policy support, local governments have made joint efforts with enterprises to establish public technology platforms to promote the intensive inflow of advanced technologies, speed up the renovation of intelligentization of manufacturing industry in the west coast of the Pearl River and realize industry transformation and upgrading.
In 2015, Foshan Science and Technology Bureau and Huazhong CNC Co., Ltd., one leading national CNC system technology, established Foshan Institute of Intelligent Equipment Technology by joint efforts. According to Zhu Ming, director of the Project Management Department of the institute, the institute has employed the collaborative innovation mode of "one institute and two companies" with HS Robot and Wuhan Golden Age Motor Technology Co., Ltd. and followed the principle of market orientation in an attempt to accelerate the promotion and application of core robot parts and complete robots manufactured in China for industry purpose, industrial upgrading and product innovation.
In fact, there are many public service platforms like Institute of Intelligent Equipment Technology in the west coast of the Pearl River. In Zhongshan, Zhongshan Intelligent Manufacturing Public Service Platform founded by Zhongshan Economic and Information technology Bureau has focused on providing one-stop services including integral solutions for intelligent manufacturing, joint research and development of key generic technologies, professional talent training, equipment leasing and financing and exhibition and experience of typical cases to enterprises. In Yangjiang, Institute of Yangjiang Metal Scissor Industry established by joint efforts of the municipal government and Central Iron & Steel Institute has integrated research and development of original technologies, cultivation of high-end talents, innovation incubating and other functions in an effort to break through the technical bottleneck of metal scissor industry and drive the transformation and upgrading of traditional industries.
