Huang Rulun and his Century Golden Resources Group topped the Chinese version of Forbes Magazine's 2006 list of "China's most generous businessmen," which was published yesterday.
Huang's group, which runs properties, hotels and hyper markets, donated 158 million yuan (US$19.5 million) in 2005, 64.4 million more than the Yu Pengnian, who positioned second on the list.
The total amount of the donations increased by 76.6 percent from last year, according to Forbes. All 100 donators on the list each contributed more than 1 million yuan, while nine donators on last year's list donated less than 1 million yuan, Forbes said.
More Chinese companies and their owners from different regions of the country appeared on the list, Forbes said.
Multinational companies also joined in on the charity affair. HSBC topped the 2006 multinational company list by donating 22.78 million yuan, according to Forbes.
It was the third year Forbes published the list in China while Rupert Hoogewerf, its former China researcher, has issued his own annual list; with content differing from Forbes'.
On Hoogewerf's 2006 list, Yu's donation of 2 billion yuan topped the list.
