| French Carnival comes to S. China city |

The carnival, with a theme of "friendship, cultural exchange and revitalization of Laibin," has so far attracted tens of thousands of spectators to watch performances by local and foreign troupes.
A Chinese folk performance and a cocktail party was also held Saturday, as a prelude to a commodity and a business bidding fair that will last for a couple of days.
Laibin, with a population of close to 2 and a half million, has beautiful scenery and unique ethnic culture. The local government has decided to turn the carnival into a regular cultural event in the future.
