A psychology professor in Shanghai has launched a campaign over the Internet to hunt down the expat blogger who maintains an explicit account of his sexual life with local girls.
Zhang Jiehai, a professor at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, wrote a post on his blog on August 25 denouncing sex blogger chinabounder, who claims to be from the UK and teaches English in Shanghai.
The expat blogger keeps an online sex diary called "Sex and Shanghai," in which he details seducing local women and having sex with them, many of which are his former students. He also allegedly ridicules the sexual abilities of Chinese males on his blog.
Professor Zhang calls on Chinese Internet users to join together and track down the blogger's identity, hoping to eventually kick him out of China.
His appeal has been echoed by many Chinese bloggers, with another blog named "who is chinabounder" set up to track him down.
In response, chinabounder wrote a blog entry on August 28 calling the professor a "nobody." His blog is now open only to invited readers.
Local expats in Shanghai call chinabounder an immoral foreigner. Roland Soong, writer of popular blog EastSouthWestNorth, said he "refused to pay any attention to it" when he first found the blog.
In a conservative country where most citizens are shy about talking about sex, chinabounder's sex blog is bound to be controversial. Professor Zhang said he respected foreigners' openness towards sex, but found it unacceptable for chinabounder to reveal details of his flings with Chinese girls and denigrate Chinese men. He also calls on Chinese women to have more self-respect.
An online survey on qq.com targetting female readers shows nearly 90 percent of the respondents support Professor Zhang's manhunt campaign and want to be involved.
