Bicycles popular again in Beijing
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2007-08-28 09:48
With environmental protection becoming a common concern in Beijing, more and more Beijingers have chosen to ride bicycles to work instead of private cars or public transportation.

"Every morning the traffic jam near Guomao makes me sick, thus I would rather cycle to and from work, which is good for my health, too," said a person who works in the Haidian District but lives in the Fengtai District.

"It takes only half an hour to go to work by bike while it takes nearly 1 hour by bus or subway," said another person whose company is in Sanlihe, Xicheng District but lives in Wudaokou, Haidian District.

Nowadays, many bicyclists can be seen at the scenic spots around Beijing. To them, bicycling is a good method both of traveling and exercise.

As bicycles regain their popularity in Beijing, the air quality in the city has been greatly improved. It can be estimated that with the 2008 Olympic Games drawing near, there will be more and more bicycles running on the roads of Beijing.
