A four-star hotel in Xi'an, the capital city of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, has recently been rebuked for rejecting bicycles and motorbikes to enter or park inside its yard.

The criticism came in response to a complaint lodged by a local businessman to the Chinese Business View against Xi'an's Jianguo Hotel for its security guard's arrogant rejection of his entering the hotel to visit his friend on the weekend, only because he was riding a bike!

The businessman surnamed Li later drove a car to the hotel and met no obstruction, however. Very much disappointed, Li considered Jianguo Hotel's rule and move constitute a sheer discrimination against environmentally friendly transport means, like bicycles. He said he did so just hoping to contribute to the environmental campaign of "Car Free Day".

A reporter with the Chinese Business View contacted the hotel, and was told by a security staff that the hotel has had the rule for years. But the security staff could not provide a proper reason for the ban, and said the hotel's security managers were unavailable at the moment.

The reporter has found no other similar bans at other big hotels in Xi'an.

Built in 1989, the Jianguo Hotel is the largest landscape-garden-like hotel in northwest China.
