A student's results in the national college entrance exams may no longer be the only criterion for acceptance to universities, according to Chinese educationists, Beijing Morning Post reported.
At an education forum on Sunday, Tan Songhua, Standing Vice President of the Chinese Society of Education, said the current situation that has college admission only depend on one's mark in the entrance exams should be changed.
Tan's opinion coincides with the views of Zhu Qingshi, headmaster of University of Science and Technology of China, who suggested admission be decided by a sum of the students' marks in both the college entrance exams and all term-end tests taken during high school, with each part accounting for fifty percent.
Zhu said the new calculation for college admission would much better reflect the real status of students throughout their three years of high school.
Their proposal was also agreed to by the country's top authority on the subject. An official with the Education Ministry said the administration will seriously debate the suggestion as part of a move to reform the national college enrollment system by combining college entrance exams with other criteria for admission. |
