Jiangxi expects gains from 'red tourism'
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2005-09-28 10:04
Jiangxi Province, dubbed China's red cradle, is expected to lure 100,000 domestic and overseas tourists during the upcoming 2005 China (Jiangxi) Red Tourism Fair, a senior provincial official said.

"Red tourism" refers to visits to sites that in one way or another have relevance to China's "red" revolution from 1921, when the Communist Party of China was born, to 1949 when new China was founded.

Executive Vice Governor Wu Xinxiong said that Jiangxi has glorious "Red" history and rich tourism resources as the province is the place where China's Red Army was born in 1927, and China's first interim Soviet-style government was established in 1931.

Themed "Red Cradle, Green Garden", the fair is scheduled to open on October 28 in Nanchang, the provincial capital.

The country's first nationwide fair of its kind is to promote "the unique status and charm of red tourism in Jiangxi, to invite investments in tourism industry, and to improve industry management capability, according to Wu.

The expo is composed of a series of activities, including Red Tourism Guide Competition from Sept 30-October 23, Trade Promotion of Red Tourism from October 25-30, large scale dancing and singing performance in Mt. Jinggangshan on October 28 and Red Tourism Photo Competition, Wu said.
