Taiwan opens to all mainland tourists
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2010-07-20 08:30

Traveling to Taiwan was made available to mainland residents from six more provinces and regions in the north and the west beginning Sunday, which means the island has opened its tourism market to all mainland visitors, the Guangzhou Daily reported.

The six regions are the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, Tibet Autonomous Region, Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, Qinghai Province, Gansu Province and Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

July 18th marked the second anniversary since Taiwan opened its tourism market to Chinese mainland residents.

In July 2008, residents from 13 mainland provinces and municipalities including Beijing, Tianjin, and Shanghai were the first to be allowed to travel on tours to Taiwan.

The list was extended to 25 regions in February, 2009.

About 1.3 million mainland tourists have visited Taiwan over the past two years, bringing in 65 billion New Taiwan dollars (or 2 billion US dollars), according to Cross-Strait Tourism Exchange Association Beijing Office.
