Profile: DPRK's top legislator Kim Yong Nam

Kim Yong Nam, president of the Presidium of Supreme People's Assembly of the Democratic People's Republic of Korea (DPRK), will start to pay an official goodwill visit to China on Monday.

Kim, born in 1928 in Pyongyang, was educated at Moscow University in 1953.

Joining the Workers' Party in early time, Kim was elected member of the Workers' Party Central Committee in November 1970, secretary of the party's secretariat in 1974 and has been member of the Politburo since October 1980.

Kim also served as DPRK's vice-minister of foreign affairs and other top jobs.

He was vice-premier of the administration council, concurrentlyminister of foreign affairs from December 1983 to September 1998. He was elected president of the Presidium of Supreme People's Assembly on September 5, 1998, and re-elected on September 3, 2003.

Kim has visited china for several times since 1965.
