A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has urged more efforts to maintain the Party's purity.

All Party members should be fully aware of the importance and urgency of the "maintaining purity" initiative and take concrete measures to promote the Party's traditions, said He Guoqiang, a Standing Committee member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.

He, also head of the CPC Central Commission for Discipline Inspection, made the remarks during a five-day inspection tour in east China's Zhejiang province that ended on Wednesday.

"Party purity" reemerged as a political buzzword after President Hu Jintao, general secretary of the CPC Central Committee, delivered a related keynote speech at a plenary session of the Party's top anti-corruption body early last month.

At the session, Hu called on Party members to strengthen their awareness of politics, risks and responsibilities, continuously carry forward the Party's style of work and conduct strict self-discipline.

During the inspection, He Guoqiang also visited local enterprises, villages, urban communities and a museum.

He reiterated the country's policies regarding the transformation of China's economic development pattern, support for small- and medium-sized enterprises and environmental protection, as well as the promotion of social welfare and the cultural industry.
