A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Zhou Yongkang has urged the country's political and legal organs to prioritize the protection of people's interests and livelihoods during their work.

Zhou, secretary of the Committee of Political and Legislative Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks Monday at a plenary meeting of the committee.

While praising the work of the country's judicial organs last year, Zhou noted that the ideas, abilities and working styles of various political and legislative affairs organs were still not in line with people's increasing judicial demands and a more open and transparent social environment.

Zhou, also a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, urged related central government departments to improve their work by carefully dealing with the proposals put forward during the "two sessions" concluded last week.

Zhou called upon political and legislative affairs organs at all levels to focus on ensuring people's interests and livelihoods with strengthened service awareness while striving to help regulate market order and solve economic conflicts.

Judicial workers were also told to familiarize themselves with the newly amended Criminal Procedure Law and boost efficiency in dealing with various cases based on rules and evidence.

In addition, Zhou stressed the innovative and scientific levels of social management work, and called for full efforts in ensuring social stability by properly handling mass incidents and individual extreme behaviors.
