The municipalities of Shanghai and Chongqing have revealed their delegates or candidates to the 18th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, which will be held later this year.

Vice-President Xi Jinping and the newly re-elected Party chief of Shanghai Yu Zhengsheng were among 73 delegates elected to represent Shanghai's Party members, according to an announcement on Tuesday.

In Chongqing, Mayor Huang Qifan and 49 others were elected as the candidates to the southwestern municipality's delegation to the CPC's 18th National Congress, according to another document published on Monday.

Bo Xilai, former Chongqing Party chief, was not on the list. Bo, who was suspected of being involved in serious discipline violations, had his membership in the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau and the CPC Central Committee suspended earlier this year, according to Xinhua News Agency.

In China, the top Party leadership - members of the CPC Central Committee - is elected from the delegates during the CPC National Congress, which is held every five years.

Jiangsu and Guangdong provinces, as well as the Xinjiang Uygur autonomous region, released their respective delegations earlier this month. More provinces and regions are expected to announce their delegates soon.

Meanwhile on Tuesday, 12 standing committee members of the CPC Shanghai Committee made their debuts and met with the press.

In a brief meeting on the ground floor of the Shanghai Expo Center, Shanghai Party chief Yu introduced the 11 other members including Han Zheng, mayor and deputy Party chief, and Yin Yicui, the other deputy Party chief.

In his address, Yu said Shanghai's goal in the next five years is boosting innovation, pursuing transformation and development, and building the city as a socialist, modern and international metropolis.

To achieve the goal, the Party must enforce the full development of people, deepen and expand the reform and opening-up, gather and make full use of the talented people, and guarantee the Party's advancement and purity, he added.

"We still face a number of difficulties on our way ahead and there are some very tricky problems," Yu said. "But we can definitely eradicate these difficulties and generate new success in the coming five years as long as we strictly enforce the routes and policies of the Party's Central Committee and closely rely on the broad mass of Shanghai people.
