China, Burundi "true friends": Chinese official

China and Burundi are true and trustworthy friends, a senior Chinese official said Tuesday.

Wang Gang, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said China and Burundi have always supported and cooperated with each other over the years.

Wang, also a member of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, made the remarks as he met with a delegation from Burundi.

The delegation is headed by Pascal Nyabenda, president of Burundi's ruling political party, the Forces for the Defense of Democracy (FDD).

Wang said the leaders of the two countries have maintained frequent contact and continuously deepened mutual trust.

The two countries have achieved remarkable results in trade and economic cooperation and enhanced people-to-people exchanges.

Wang said the CPC and FDD have seen smooth progress in their relations since they formed official ties. He said the CPC is ready to advance relations with the FDD by strengthening contact on various levels, deepening exchanges and advancing cooperation in all fields. He called for the two parties to jointly make fresh contributions to the growth of bilateral relations.

Nyabenda expressed readiness to deepen exchanges and cooperation between the FDD and CPC so as to promote friendly cooperation between the two countries.
