A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has urged students of politics and law to make more efforts to develop their sense of morality alongside their professional skills.

Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, made the remarks Wednesday while visiting the China University of Political Science and Law.

"The university should strengthen students' knowledge of ideology and China's national conditions, as well as pay equal attention to the development of both professional skills and moral character," Zhou said.

Zhou, who is also secretary of the Committee of Political and Legislative Affairs of the CPC Central Committee, urged the university to further innovate in the legal field and make more efforts to research issues concerning law enforcement and judicial practice.

In addition, Zhou called on the university to summarize its past experience and produce legal workers and scholars of a higher calibre.
