A Dong, mayor of Sanya, a coastal city in southern China's island province of Hainan, boosted sales of the city's mangos via live streaming on the online shopping platform Taobao Thursday afternoon.

"These are the best mangos in Sanya. I hope everyone buys them," said A Dong, wearing a mask at a mango plantation. He hoped to promote sales online and help increase local farmers' income.

With a planting area of over 20,000 hectares, the mango industry is the largest tropical fruit industry in Sanya. The city is expected to produce more than 500,000 tonnes of mangos this year.

A Dong said that Sanya's mangos generally appear in markets from February to June every year, four months earlier than other provinces that grow mangos. Sanya now sells nearly 3,000 tonnes of mangos each day, and about 75,000 tonnes of mangos are expected to be picked up for sale by the end of this month.

Due to the outbreak of novel coronavirus pneumonia, the sales of agricultural products including mangos have been affected since the Spring Festival.

Sanya earlier published seven measures to support the production and marketing of vegetables and fruits, including rewarding bulk purchases.
