Chinese archaeologists have completed the excavation of a tomb in suburban Beijing that belonged to a high-ranking official during the late Tang Dynasty (618 - 907).

A unique painted jade figure, a gilded epitaph with zodiac animal carvings and other valuable artifacts have been unearthed from the tomb of Liu Ji located in Beijing's Fangshan District, the Beijing Municipal Administration of Cultural Heritage announced Saturday.

Liu was a powerful governor during the late Tang Dynasty, administering what is now the city of Beijing and its surrounding areas in north China, researchers said.
