The EU is a strong market with a strong currency, and the common market and comment value are the cornerstones for the future wealth of the Netherlands.
Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte said this during an exclusive interview with Xinhuanet Saturday.
Of some voices against the EU in the Netherlands and other EU countries, he said, EU is very important to the Netherlands, because the Netherlands is "an exporting country."
If the EU were not there, the country "would have invented it," he added.
"We don't have trade barriers within Europe, so for me, Europe is a strong market with a strong currency," he said.
He admitted that the EU has not been transparent enough in the last 20 or 30 years as it has been "a project conducted outside media."
"People do not know exactly what is happening in Brussels," and people felt that too much power was handed over to it, he added.
However, he said his government initialed some proper measures to address the situation.
"I agree that we should make it stronger (to win the public arguments) , make more dialogue with the people, and to acknowledge the mistakes that have been made," he said.
