Chinese Premier Li Keqiang and Romanian President Traian Basescu pledged here on Wednesday to boost practical cooperation between their countries.

China and Romania enjoy a profound friendship and have always supported each other on issues of their core interests and major concerns, which laid a solid foundation for the development of bilateral relations, Li said when meeting with the Romanian president.

Li, who arrived here Monday, described his visit to Romania as an endeavor to consolidate the two countries' traditional friendship and promote their practical cooperation.

Earlier this month, China mapped out a comprehensive reform plan, which would unleash fresh opportunities for the development of its relations with Romania, Li noted.

China stands ready to deepen practical cooperation with Romania in such fields as trade, investment and infrastructure, expand cultural and people-to-people exchanges, strengthen communication and coordination on global and regional affairs and broaden common interests to benefit the people of the two countries, he said.

On ties between China and Central and Eastern European (CEE) countries, Li said China upholds the principles of equal treatment, mutual respect, mutual benefit, win-win results and common development in promoting ties with those countries, which is conducive to stability and prosperity of the CEE region and helps Europe better play the part of an important world polar.

China is ready to join efforts with CEE countries including Romania, to impel cooperation between the two sides with a strategic and long-term view, so as to contribute to world peace and development, the Chinese premier said.

Hailing Li's visit to Romania, Basescu said the trip would help lift China-Romania ties and China-CEE cooperation to a new stage.

Romania is a reliable friend and partner of China both in the region and within the European Union, the president said, adding the CEE country is willing to expand cooperation with China in various areas and continue to play a positive role in promoting cooperation between China and CEE countries.
