China, India special representatives meet on border problem in New Delhi

China and India have agreed to make common efforts to seek an early achievement of a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable framework for solving the border problem.

At the 17th meeting of special representatives for border problem held here from Monday through Tuesday, Chinese Special Representative and State Councilor Yang Jiechi and Indian Special Representative and National Security Advisor Shivsharkar Menon had in-depth exchanges of views on the China-India border problem, bilateral relations and international and regional issues of mutual interest.

The two sides agreed that China and India have maintained a good momentum in their border talks, effectively controlled and managed disputes and differences and therefore have laid advantageous conditions for the healthy, smooth development of bilateral relations.

They agreed that before the border issue is solved, the two sides are willing to let the existing mechanisms concerning the border issue to play their full role, implement the relevant agreement for maintaining peace and tranquillity.

The two sides said that China and India are strategic cooperative partners and the strengthening of bilateral relations to promote common development conforms to the common interests of the two countries and their people.

They also agreed that as the world's two biggest developing countries and emerging market economies, China and India hold special and common responsibility for promoting regional and even global peace and development.

They agreed that the two sides should maintain high-level exchanges, and continuously increase strategic trust and coordination.

The two sides also expressed willingness to push forward the convergence of the markets of the two countries and smoothly encourage railway, industrial park cooperation as well as Bangladesh-India-China-Myanmar economic corridor construction, and to tie up in the building of a "Silk Road" economic belt.

The two countries will join hand to ensure a successful "China India Year of Friendly Exchanges" this year to promote friendship between the people of the two countries, as well as inherit and spread the spirit of the five principles of peaceful co-existence.

They two countries will also strengthen consultations and coordination in the United Nations, G-20, BRICS countries and other multilateral frameworks to safeguard the common interests of them and other developing countries.
