Zambia suspends oil exploration until monitoring committee in place
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-01-05 13:57

The Zambia government has halted oil and gas explorations until a committee to oversee the operations is put in place.

Minister of Mines Wilbur Simuusa on Wednesday told a press conference that explorations for oil and gas will only resume once a petroleum committee to oversee the development is appointed.

"Government informed the investors to hold on until a committee is appointed and we are hopeful that explorations will commence soon," he said.

Seven companies were last year selected to explore for oil and gas in Zambia, of which, three were local companies and the rest were foreign firms.
