Egypt's FM welcomes Saudi decision to return its ambassador to Cairo
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-05-05 09:45

Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohamed Kamel Amr welcomed on Friday a Saudi decision to return its ambassador in Cairo on Sunday, official MENA news agency reported.

MENA quoted Amr as saying that his "almost daily contacts" with his Saudi counterpart Prince Saud al-Faisal last week reflected keenness of both sides to pass the current transitory crisis between the two countries.

Saudi Arabia's king has ordered Friday the Gulf country's diplomatic mission to re-open in Egypt, one day after a high-level delegation headed by Egypt's parliament speaker Saad al-Katatni arrived for talks with Saudi officials aimed at defusing the crisis overshadowing ties between the long-time allies.

Saudi Arabia announced April 28 to recall its ambassador in Egypt and close its embassy in Cairo and consulates in the Egyptian cities of Alexandria and Suez over minor protests around the embassy against the detention of an Egyptian lawyer in the Saudi city of Jeddah over allegations of possessing drugs.
