The Ministerial Meeting of Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) Coordination Bureau wrapped up in Egypt's Red Sea resorts city Sharm el-Sheikh on Thursday, amid continuous calls from its member states for a bigger role in the international political arena.

"The NAM was established for the independence of developing countries between two poles 50 years ago, and now it is still effective and there are many developing countries found it important for them," said Egyptian Foreign Minister Mohammed Amr, asserting that the Final Document of the meeting was balance enough.

In the Final Document, ministers of NAM countries emphasized that the present global scenario presents great challenges in the areas of peace and security, economic development and social progress, it is imperative for the movement to continue to promote multilateralism, especially by strengthening the central role of the United Nations, including in Global Governance, defending the interests of developing countries and preventing their marginalization.

As Palestinian issue, ministers expressed serious concern about the dangerous impasse in the Middle East peace process, condemned ongoing Israeli intransigence and illegal policies.

They expressed grave concern regarding the consequent deterioration of the situation on the ground in the occupied Palestinian territory, including east Jerusalem, and stressed that the status quo is unsustainable and that the situation requires immediate attention by the international community.

Concerning the Syrian issue, the ministers expressed deep concern over the imposition of unilateral sanctions against Syria by the United States, and further called the two countries to dialogue based on respect and mutual interest for the best of the two nations and the peoples.

They also took note of the efforts of the international community to deal with the situation in Syria. They welcomed the efforts by UN and Arab League special envoy Kofi Annan and called for full implementation of Annan's plan and its six points.

Known as the City of Peace, Sharm el-Sheikh will hold the Ministerial Meeting of NAM Coordination Bureau from Monday to Thursday, aiming to make preparations for the NAM head of states summit which will open this summer in Iran.

As of 2012, the NAM has altogether 120 member states. Azerbaijan and Fiji became its latest members in the 16th ministerial meeting held in Indonesia last year.

China became a NAM observer in September 1992.
