The Chilean government decided to reinforce security in the country when the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum (APEC) was held here in November.

According to local press Tuesday, about 3,500 national military police will be deployed during the meeting to protect the 20 delegations and personalities participating in the summit on Nov. 19-21.

The metropolitan head of the West Zone of the national police, General Hector Henriquez, said the policemen will provide "integral security to the members of the delegations participating in this international event."

Other special units taking part in the protection of the visitors will be the Operations Group, the Special Forces and the Aero-Police Brigade.
