Leader of the House Anthony Albanese confirmed on Thursday that United States President Barack Obama will address a joint sitting of Federal Parliament on March 23 during his visit to Australia.
Obama will make the address on what is likely to be a lightning visit to Canberra.
The Australian Parliament will be recalled for two days to accommodate Obama's visit.
Albanese said Obama's address to Parliament is a great honor for Members of Parliament.
"President Obama will be a very, very welcome guest in this country," he said.
"Of course (it) will generate a great deal of interest from the public."
Albanese said arrangements for the visit were still being finalized and would be revealed in due course. "There are a range of reasons, not the least of which are security reasons," he added. |
