Chilean President Sebastian Pinera said Friday that he will sell the 11.3 percent of the shares of the airline LAN, because he was not able to sell before taking office on Thursday.
"I am going to fulfill all my campaign promises," Pinera said during a press conference, adding that 60 percent of his shares in that company were already sold.
"I regret that circumstances beyond my will, like the earthquake and tsunami of Feb. 27, have delayed days or week these commitments, but I think that the Chilean people have good will and will understand," Pinera said.
The opposition has questioned the conflict of interests concerning Pinera's positions as a businessman and a politician. |
