US says no active plot on bin Laden anniversary
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-04-29 22:47

White House counter-terrorism adviser John Brennan on Sunday said there is no reports of active plots by terrorists to attack the United States on the anniversary of al-Qaeda mastermind Osama bin Laden's death.

"There is no credible reporting right now that there is an active plot underway to coincide with the anniversary of the bin Laden takedown," said Brennan during an interview with "Fox News Sunday" on the one-year anniversary of the U.S. raid in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

Asked why the government has rejected requests to release visual confirmation that the raid killed bin Laden, Brennan explained, "There is no doubt whatsoever that bin Laden is dead. I think by all accounts it was a very successful raid on that compound in Abbottabad. What we don't want to do is to put out anything that is going to unnecessarily incite emotions on this issue."

Brennan touted the achievement of the attack later. Appearing on CNN's State of the Union, he said the United States is "on the path to al-Qaeda's destruction."

But he acknowledged that "we still have work to do" on the counter-terrorism front. He said the U.S. government is working closely with the Pakistani government to target terrorist cells there.
