The U.S. Democratic Party maintains its favorability edge over the rivaling Republican Party (GOP) despite a series of political setbacks suffered by the Obama Administration in the past year, a poll released Wednesday showed.

The Democratic Party enjoys a favorable rating of 42 percent, down from 46 in June, while the GOP has a favorable rating of 32 percent, down from 39 percent.

This indicated that both parties have lost ground with the American public compared with earlier this year, Gallup said in a report.

But the GOP's favorable rating, at 32 percent, has slightly improved from the all-time low of 28 percent in October during the government shutdown, which was largely blamed on the Republican Party, Gallup noted.

Moderates are more likely to view the Democratic Party favorably than the GOP, by 47 percent to 27 percent, which could be problematic for the GOP next year in the midterm congressional elections, Gallup added.

"It is worth noting, however, that moderates typically lean more Democratic than Republican," it said.

The Democrats have apparently suffered from the Obama Administration's political setbacks in the past year, including the exposed spying program, the Federal government shutdown, and the botched Obamacare rollout.

But the GOP has failed to benefit much from the woes of Obamacare, or the decline in President Barack Obama's job approval rating, Gallup said.
