New York's LaGuardia Airport closed after plane skids off runway

The LaGuardia Airport in New York City was closed Thursday after an incoming plane skidded off the runway amid another snow storm in New York Tri-State area.

There were no major injuries, said a spokesperson with the Fire Department of New York.

There were 149 people on board the plane. All passengers were evacuated after the mishap.

The National Weather Service has issued a winter storm warning for New York City, Long Island and areas of New Jersey until 7 p.m. Thursday. It is predicted the snow accumulations of four and eight inches.

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has declared a state of emergency and is asking motorists to stay off the roads.

New York Tri-State area, referring New York State, New Jersey and Connecticut, has experienced frequent snow falls for this winter, and rare severe cold weather with temperatures dropping to 10 degrees Celsius below zero for consecutive days in February.
