Indonesian Air Force plans big spending

The Indonesian Air Force is planning big spending on main weaponry system to increase preparedness, the chief of Staff Air said Tuesday.

Among the priority purchase will include three maritime surveillance planes, six Russian-made Sukhoi jet fighters, NAS-332 Super Puma helicopters and KT-1B training planes, said Chief of Staff Air Marshal Herman Prayitno.

The Air Force will also buy guided missiles and ammunition and repair several types of planes.

Also included in the budget was the plan to build an air base in Tarakan in East Kalimantan province to "strengthen our force in the eastern part of Indonesia."

"To support security efforts in our borders, we will deploy combat units from the existing air bases," he was quoted by the national Antara news agency as saying.
