Batbold becomes new Mongolian PM

Sukhbaataryn Batbold became the new Mongolian Prime Minister on Thursday, receiving 93.9 percent of the votes at a plenary meeting of parliament.

After the appointment, Batbold said he would make all efforts to perform his duties and manage government affairs well.

Batbold also promised to make all efforts to increase the number of job places and provide the nation with education and a healthy life.

The Mongolian People's Revolutionary Party's Leading Council nominated Batbold as the new prime minister on Wednesday, the same day that the parliament accepted former Prime Minister Sanjaa Bayar's resignation.

Bayar tendered his resignation for health reasons in a letter sent to the country's legislature Monday afternoon. He has apologized for not being able to continue to perform his duties.

Batbold, who was born in 1963 and graduated from the School of International Relations, University of Moscow in 1986, has served as Minister for Trade and Industry of Mongolia. He became Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade in September 2008.

Mongolian President Tsakhiagiin Elbegdorj Thursday received Batbold in Government House and underlined the great duties and responsibilities of the state in times of establishing a long-term development basis. He asked Batbold to dynamically work for maintaining justice during his premiership.
