India and Russia Friday signed 19 pacts, including the purchase of the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Gorshkov and some 30 Russian Mig-29K fighters, as Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin wound up his one-day visit here.

The two sides also agreed that Russia will build 12 civil atomic plants for India, including six in the southern state of Tamil Nadu and six in the eastern state of West Bengal, according to Indian and Russian officials.

The agreements were signed after Putin held talks with his Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh here.

The two sides also signed an umbrella nuclear agreement on peaceful uses of nuclear energy, which was initiated during Singh' s visit to Moscow in December last year.
