S. Korea runs close inspection on suspected bird flu case
Last Updated(Beijing Time):2012-01-04 20:39

South Korea's agriculture ministry said Wednesday it is carrying out close inspection for bird flu after 110 ducks fell dead at a large duck farm in the northern part of the country.

The Ministry for Food, Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries said clinical symptoms of avian influenza were found in the dead ducks at the farm in Icheon, 80 kilometers north of Seoul.

Results of the inspection are expected to come out on Saturday.

South Korea regained its bird flu-free status from the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) in September last year as no further outbreaks of the disease were reported after the last case in May.

The bird flu outbreak that occurred between December 2010 and May 2011 forced the country to cull more than 6.27 million birds.
