India's Lokayukta (Ombudsman) has sought action against the Chief Minister of Delhi, Sheila Dikshit, for allegedly violating norms during the civic polls in the national capital nearly four years back, local media reported Friday.
Lokayukta Justice Manmohan Sarin has sent a special report to Delhi Lieutenant Governor Tejendra Khanna indicting Dikshit for violating norms of integrity and conduct by issuing a misleading message to woo poor voters in the run-up to the 2008 civic body elections, The Times of India newspaper reported.
Dikshit had allegedly said in 2008 that 60,000 houses for economically weaker sections were "ready" to be allotted when those hadn't even been built, the newspaper said.
The Ombudsman's latest recommendation came several months after he had sent a similar report to the Indian President, Pratibha Patil, with his recommendations for action against Dikhsit. The President, however, then gave a clean chit to the Chief Minister, pointing out that there was no evidence of any malafide intention on her part. |
