In a bid to improve ties, an Indian parliamentary delegation is to arrive here next week for talks with top leaders, said the Sri Lankan government on Tuesday.
It will be the first political delegation to visit Sri Lanka after India voted for a U.S. backed resolution on Sri Lanka in March, which resulted in cooler relations between the two countries.
The aim of the official tour is to reinforce India's commitment towards ethnic Sri Lankan Tamils, the Sri Lankan government website noted.
The delegation will comprise representatives from ruling Congress as well as key southern Indian and leftist parties.
At least seven members of the delegation are from Tamil Nadu, which has vociferously criticized the Sri Lankan government for its human rights record.
The delegation is likely to meet Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa and other political leaders, and travel to former war- torn northern and eastern parts of the country. |
