India Tuesday termed as "rumors " the recent media reports about the acute shortage of ammunition in the Army, saying the country is fully prepared.
Dismissing reports about "only four days of ammunition left with the Army", Indian Defense Minister A.K. Antony said: "These are all rumors. I can assure you that the country is fully prepared."
The minister added: "India is in much more stronger position than compared to the past. There will always be some shortcomings and that is also in the process. We can't expect 100 percent requirements to be fulfilled and also that entire force is not on the front. They are all spread over."
The minister made the remarks to the media on the sidelines of an Indian Air Force conference in the national capital.
Citing a leaked letter from Indian Army Chief V.K. Singh to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in March, local media reported that only four days of ammunition were left with the Indian Army's armored regiments, apart from other shortcomings in the 1.32 million strong force. |
