At least 10 people were killed and 15 others were injured in a major road mishap in the southern Indian state of Karnataka Sunday, a police official said.

"The mishap happened when the truck in which the victims were traveling rammed into another truck at Salahalli village near Belgaum district. While nine people died on the spot, one succumbed to his injuries in the hospital," he said, on condition of anonymity.

All the others injured have been admitted to nearby hospitals by locals, the official said.

A probe has been ordered into the incident, he said, adding that preliminary investigation has revealed that the driver of the truck lost control of the speeding vehicle.
