India is to testfire its home- made nuclear capable Agni-V intercontinental ballistic missile off the coast of the eastern state of Odisha Wednesday, sources said Monday.

"The missile, with a strike range of over 5,000 kms, is to be testfired from Wheeler Island off Odisha coast. It is a a development trial and so health parameters of this missile have been incorporated," the sources said.

Agni-V will incorporate advanced technologies involving ring laser gyroscope and accelerometer for navigation and guidance, they said, adding the solid-fuelled intercontinental ballistic missile is being developed by the Defense Research and Development Organization.

If successful, the missile will bring the whole of Asia, 70 percent of Europe and other regions under its strike range and will put India among a select band of countries in the world to possess the technology of Inter-Continental Ballistic Missiles.
